Mid Century Modern Furniture 3 Seater Sofa by Peter Hvidt for France & Daverkosen, Danish 1950’s
Mid century modern furniture at its most refined, this rare three-seater sofa in beech Model FD 172 was designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for France & Daverkosen in 1950s. A distinctive and unusual model, sometimes referred to as a slipper sofa, it remains something of a mystery with very little written about it, adding to its intrigue and rarity.
The design is both elegant and understated with soft curves and generous proportions making it exceptionally comfortable. The frame has been thoroughly and sympathetically restored. The beech wood was gently cleaned, lightly stripped, oiled, then finished with French polish and wax to bring out its rich grain and warm colour.
The original sprung cushions have been retained and reupholstered in a luxurious cream wool bouclé by Larsen, with leather buttons and piping adding a beautiful tailored touch. A rare piece of mid century modern furniture that combines quiet sophistication with everyday practicality. Perfect for those seeking character, comfort, and timeless design.
