Finnish Mid Century Sofa in Rose Uniacke Mohair Velvet, 1950s
A Finnish mid century sofa from the 1950s, with a nicely shaped back and soft, flowing arms that give it a relaxed, easy feel. It’s been upholstered in a deep grey Rose Uniacke mohair velvet, which catches the light as you move around it, shifting slightly in tone and bringing out the curves and overall shape of the piece.
The old upholstery has been removed and replaced with new padding and calico, then finished in the mohair velvet. The birch legs have been lightly stripped and French polished to bring back their natural warmth, sitting well against the darker fabric.
It’s a well proportioned design, nothing overworked, just a good sense of line and balance. Comfortable, practical and easy to live with, with that quiet, slightly understated feel you often get with Finnish pieces of this period.

The sofa is upholstered in Rose Uniacke mohair velvet in Koala, a soft grey with a gentle variation in tone. Mohair, made from the hair of the Angora goat, is known for its strength, durability and natural sheen.
The fabric has a dense pile that catches the light, giving a rich depth of colour that shifts slightly as you move around it. That change in tone works particularly well on a piece like this, picking up the curves of the arms and back and helping to define the overall shape. It also has a lovely soft feel to it, which adds to the overall comfort of the piece.
