Yngve Ekstrom Lounge Chairs for Swedese, Sweden, 1950s
A pair of lounge chairs designed by Yngve Ekström for Swedese, Sweden, 1950s. A simple, well-proportioned design with solid oak arms and a gently reclined back that gives a relaxed, comfortable seating position.
Both chairs have been fully and sympathetically restored. The original upholstery has been removed, the internal webbing replaced, and new foam used to ensure proper support and comfort. They have been upholstered with a fire-retardant calico underlayer, then finished in a heavyweight linen by Pierre Frey. The fabric has a subtle texture and depth and sits well against the warmth of the oak.
The frames have been stripped back, cleaned and refinished using traditional methods, including French polish and wax. This brings out the natural colour and patina in the oak built up over time, with visible medullary rays and a richness that comes through with careful finishing.
A straightforward, confident design. The arms give the chairs their character, while the linen softens the overall look. Properly restored and ready to bring mid-century character into any interior.

Upholstered in a heavyweight linen by Pierre Frey from the Nate Cru Lins collection, based around natural fibres in muted colourways for a more understated feel. The Leopold fabric used here has a gentle raised texture running through it, which gives it a quiet depth while remaining subtle, as a linen should be.
A natural material that sits well with the oak and suits the period of the chairs.
