Mid Century Swedish Oak Dining Table by Borge Mogensen
A 1950s oak dining table by Borge Mogensen for Karl Andersson & Söner. The design is simple and well judged, with clean lines and two extension leaves that sit neatly within the frame.
The table was sourced in Sweden in a worn condition, with the original finish scratched and faded. It has since been fully restored in our London workshop. The surface was stripped back, carefully reworked, and refinished using traditional methods including French polish and wax. This has brought out the natural grain and medullary rays in the oak, along with a depth of colour that had been lost over time. The aim was to improve the table without removing its age or character.
With the extension leaves in place, it comfortably seats a larger group while keeping the same proportions. It is a practical piece, but also a good example of Mogensen’s approach to furniture, where the focus is on clarity, balance, and durability.
