Carl Malmsten Swedish Lounge Chair, 1950s
Designed by Carl Malmsten, this Swedish lounge chair from the 1950s is the Lillasyster model — a name which translates as “little sister.” The chair embodies Malmsten’s characteristic approach to furniture, combining soft sculptural forms with a strong emphasis on comfort and craftsmanship.
The frame has been fully restored and the chair newly upholstered in green mohair velvet from The Sign collection by Chase Erwin. The upholstery is finished with silk tufted buttons by Samuel & Sons, complementing the rich texture of the mohair and the generous curves of the design.
Produced by O.H. Sjögren in Tranås, Sweden, the chair reflects the high standards of Swedish cabinetmaking during the mid twentieth century. Malmsten’s designs were known for their refined proportions and emphasis on natural materials, resulting in furniture that remains both elegant and comfortable today.
