Vintage Finnish Lounge Chairs, 1950s
A pair of vintage Finnish lounge chairs from the 1950s. A simple and very elegant design with clean, sweeping curves. A very understated design brought to life by the new grey mohair velvet, which really emphasises the soft, clean lines of the piece.
Sourced in Finland in worn condition, the chairs have been fully restored. The original upholstery was removed, the frames checked, and the seats rebuilt with new padding before being upholstered in a fire-retardant calico base. They are finished in a grey mohair velvet by Rose Uniacke, which works well with the shape and gives the chairs real presence. The fabric has a natural variation across the pile which catches the light gently.
The birch legs have been cleaned, lightly stripped and French polished to bring out the warmth of the timber while retaining their age and character.
A lovely pair of chairs, epitomising 1950s Scandinavian design, simple and restrained, reupholstered in a deep, rich mohair velvet.

Upholstered in a grey mohair velvet by Rose Uniacke Koala, the fabric has a really pleasing depth to it. The pile is soft and dense, with a gentle sheen that shifts as you move around it, giving the surface a richness you don’t get with flatter weaves. It’s also a practical choice — durable, and well suited to regular use.
