Hans Wegner AT 305 Desk in Oak
A 1950s oak desk, model AT 305, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Andreas Tuck, Denmark. This piece is a clear example of Wegner’s functionalist approach, where the construction is the main decorative element. The design features a broad oak top supported by an elegantly tapered frame and set-back legs.
The desk was sourced in Denmark with a finish that was noticably scratched, and worn. We have performed a full, sympathetic restoration in our London workshop. The oak was cleaned, stripped, and sanded back before being refinished with a traditional French polish. This has brought out the medullary rays and the deep, natural grain of the oak to great effect. The resulting finish has a soft, rich lustre that highlights the built-up patina and colour without looking over-restored.
The cabinetry is exceptional, featuring three drawers with distinct carved oak handles and a smaller internal collection drawer. It is a well-proportioned, confident piece of mid century design, now restored to a high standard..
