Burr Walnut Mid Century Coffee Table, Swedish 1940’s

A beautiful circular mid century coffee table / sofa table in Burr Walnut by a Swedish cabinetmaker in the 1940’s. Amazing deep rich golden colours to the walnut really makes this piece stand out.  A lovely simple and elegant Scandinavian design which is so characteristic of the period.
The table has been newly french polished and is in an excellent original condition.

French polishing is the traditional method of applying a finish (shellac) to wood. It is a painstaking process carried out over many days to build up the finish. Although not commonly used anymore because it is tricky and time consuming we practice it at Alto Stile because it builds up such a beautiful finish, showing of the wood’s natural beauty to the very best effect. Unlike spray or other finishes French polish seeps into the wood to really bring out the colour and grain to the best effect instead of just sitting on the top like spray finishes.
