Danish Leather Sofa in Rosewood Capella by Illum Wikkelso, 1950s
Danish leather sofa designed by Illum Wikkelsø for Niels Eilersen in the 1950s. Known as the Capella sofa, this rare two-seater features a solid rosewood frame with original black leather cushions, offering a striking combination of materials and a timeless, understated elegance. The rich tones of the rosewood are beautifully complemented by the supple aged leather, making it a standout piece.
The sofa has undergone extensive restoration. The rosewood frame was carefully cleaned, burnished, oiled, and wax polished to revive its deep colour and patina. The original leather cushions were gently washed with specialist soaps and nourished with leather cream to restore their soft, supple character. The old seat webbing was also replaced with new Pirelli webbing, ensuring extra comfort and long-term support.
This Danish leather sofa is both a design classic and a practical, comfortable piece. A beautiful example of mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship, restored with care and attention to detail. A true Danish leather sofa to elevate any interior. A matching three-seater Capella sofa and footstool are also available.
